Tips For Getting a Tattoo

So whether you already have a tattoo or you are looking to get your first one, it’s a big decision to figure out what you want your tattoo to look like and where to put it.  I mean this is a lifetime commitment! (usually)

What Will Your Tattoo Represent?

What is the “goal” of your tattoo? Looking to commemorate an event? Maybe a birth or death? Many people choose a tattoo to honor someone or something special to themselves.

It will be important to have a graphical representation of your body art. After all it is a tattoo!

Location, Location, Location

Where do you want to put your new tattoo on your body? This is an important decision because its going to be there for a LONG time! The most common places for a male are arms, back and chest. The most common place for a  female is the back, lower stomach, ankle and back of the neck.

One important thing to consider is the professionalism of your tattoo. You have to take into consideration your career or even if you don’t have one now, consider the future and make a wise decision.

Finding the Right Design..

So probably the most important part of your tattoo is what it will look like. You have to take into consideration if you will have letters, numbers or words. If you do then choosing the font that you want to use is very important. There are a lot of websites that help you pick a font. Just Google “tattoo font”

Ready? Finding an Artist

There are many places you can get a tattoo, but you have to be very selective in this process. Be sure that the person giving your tattoo is an artist. Don’t bring them a piece of art to just copy, show them what you like and let them reproduce. Having a skilled ink artist do your tattoo will results in a much better end product.

It’s always wise to check their portfolio of work and see what they have actually done. Referrals are always important so ask around before you commit.

Use the Internet and do your research. Find people in your local area or even travel to get your tattoo done if that’s a possibility.  Don’t forget there are many tattoo expos that you could check out as well to do your research.

Good luck!
